A 28-year-old person from Cachar district of Assam tested positive for COVID-19 on May 17.

Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that the person had travelled from Chennai on May 16. He is under treatment at Silchar Medical College and Hospital.

“A 28-year person from Cachar dist, who arrived from Chennai yesterday, has tested #COVID positive. He is now under treatment at Silchar Medical College & Hospital,” Sarma tweeted.

With this, the number of cases in Assam went up to 97. Of the total cases, 41 patients already recovered and were released from hospitals. There are 52 active cases while two patients died of COVID-19 complications in the state. Two patients migrated to other states.

Assam has reported a number of positive cases in the past few days – mostly due to stranded people coming back to the state.
