Over 250 new cases of COVID-19 for second day in Assam; tally at 2115

The COVID-19 tally in Assam breached the 2000-mark on June 4, while the number of active cases also crossed 1600 as the state recorded the highest single-day spike yet.

Altogether 285 new cases were detected on June 4, pushing the overall COVID-19 tally to 2115.

The total count doubled from 1000 on May 30 to cross 2000 on June 4.

Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed that among the new cases, at least, 79 are from Hojai, 38 from Dhubri, 28 from Udalguri, 21 each from Barpeta and Tinsukia, 14 from Dima Hasao, 11 from Kamrup and 10 from Nagaon.

The state also recorded the highest increase in number of new cases on June 4 with the 285 detections, against 269 new cases confirmed on June 3 when the number of new detections had crossed 200 for the first time.

The number of active cases in the state now stands at 1649.

Meanwhile, 46 patients were discharged from different hospitals across the state after testing negative for the virus twice, taking the number of recovered cases to 459.
