AIUDF president Badruddin Ajmal

The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), led by  Badruddin Ajmal, said that the forthcoming panchayat polls in Assam will be a referendum on the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.

AIUDF president and Lok Sabha MP Badruddin Ajmal said that the ruling BJP will suffer a massive defeat in the panchayat elections.

“The BJP government in the state will be taught a proper lesson by the voters for all the misdeeds committed by it. The government came to power promising to protect jati, mati and bheti, but they betrayed the trust of the people of Assam. Now the BJP government has entered into a conspiracy against the people of Assam by trying to forcefully impose the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill,” Ajmal said.

He added that instead of respecting the sentiments of the people of Assam, who have come out to the streets against the controversial bill, the BJP is trying to play the politics of polarisation.

“The panchayat polls are being held just at a time when the movement against the proposed legislation has intensified. So, the panchayat polls will be a sort of referendum on the bill. People of the state will vote against the BJP and the AGP and show their opposition to the bill,” the AIUDF president said.
