The Parag Kumar Das Journalism award was conferred upon Guwahati based senior journalist Pranay Bordoloi in Guwahati on Saturday.
The award ceremony coincides the 57th birth anniversary of the prominent journalist and human rights activist who was assassinated by miscreants on May 17 in 1996.
Receiving the award, Bordoloi said that it’s unfortunate the killers of Das are still free and justice was not done.
“We continue to demand that the killers must be punished. The justice must be provided to the brutal killing of a strong voice,” said Bordoloi.
The award was instituted by Janasadharan newspaper in 2010 and it’s being continued by a forum – Parag Kumar Das Colleagues’ Forum — formed by the fellow journalists and activists who worked with Das.
Manorom Gogoi of the forum said that the ideals of Das will continue to inspire the generations.
Besides writing a series of thought-provoking articles, Parag Kumar Das has also authored at least seven critically acclaimed books including ‘Sanglot Fenla’.
