Plan to convert MLA apartments into speciality hospital: Arunachal CM

The Arunachal Pradesh government is planning to convert the newly-constructed MLA apartment complex in Itanagar into a permanent speciality hospital.

The apartment complex at Chimpu, which was quickly transformed into a dedicated COVID hospital during the first wave of the pandemic last year, is being run by the Tomo Riba Institute Of Health And Medical Sciences (TRIHMS).

Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu on June 23 said that the now government plans to convert the MLA apartment complex into a permanent speciality hospital.

He said this during an interaction with healthcare workers and doctors at the TRIHMS-run dedicated Covid hospital (DCH) in Chimpu.

“Healthcare, a priority above all else. Originally intent to serve as an MLA apartment, this beautiful buildings at Chimpu will be permanently converted into a full-fledged specialised hospital. Currently, it serves as a Dedicated #Covid Hospital with more than 120 functional beds,” CM Pema Khandu wrote on Facebook.

The chief minister revealed that he is planning to convert the entire MLA apartment complex into a permanent speciality hospital for welfare of the people. He said he would pursue the proposal with the speaker, deputy speaker and all his legislator colleagues.

The DCH, Chimpu has a total capacity of 126 rooms/beds, of which 39 are currently occupied. The district COVID health centre in Midpu has a capacity of 20, while the state quarantine facility has total room/ bed capacity of 356.

The MLA apartment complex at Chimpu boosts of various facilities like swimming pool, recreational hall, facility of indoor games, and other amenities.
