One police personnel on poll duty was killed in what has been termed as “suspected accidental firing” in Manipur on February 28.

According to chief electoral officer of Manipur, Rajesh Agrawal, the police personnel identified as Havildar Naorem Ibochouba Singh, who was detailed for poll duty at 55/37 Senvon (C) polling station in Tipaimukh assembly constituency, was killed on February 28.

Voting was underway for the Manipur assembly election in the polling station on February 28.

“It is suspected to be accidental firing from his service weapon,” said the CEO in his condolence message.

Havildar Naorem Ibochouba Singh hailed from Kakching Labungo Pareng, Kakching district.

The body was recovered by concerned officials with the help of Rapid Response team (RRT) and brought to Imphal by helicopter. A sub-inspector (investigating officer) and a magistrate accompanied the body, the CEO added.
