A public toilet facility constructed by the Rotary Club of Aizawl at Durtlang on the periphery of the capital city of Mizoram was inaugurated on Saturday to mark the completion of 25 years of the club.
The facility consisting of a urinal and a washroom complex, along with drinking water dispenser, was designed by Lalrimawii Khiangte, architect and past president of the Rotary Club of Aizawl. The construction was supervised by Vanlalruata Sailo, engineer and incoming president of the Rotary Club of Aizawl.
The complex, which was designed to improve local sanitary conditions and provide value added infrastructure, is expected to benefit a large number of households in the Leitan area of Durtlang. The unique feature of the project is that there is an association of young basketball players whose playground is nearby and they have volunteered to maintain and look after the upkeep of the complex.
On Saturday evening, the Rotary Club celebrated its 25th anniversary with a commemorative function and dinner at the Aijal Club in the city. Founder and charter president of the club, Nurul Laskar, was the chief guest on the occasion. Laskar administered the oath of office to the newly elected president Vanlalruata Sailo and other office bearers elected to serve during the Rotary year 2017-18. It may be mentioned that the charter was officially presented to the club on December 7, 1992 and those members who were present on the occasion were honoured with 25th anniversary commemoration award on Saturday.
