A quack (Kabiraj) was allegedly lynched by villagers of Sitoi Adong village of West Karbi Anglong district of Assam on July 4 on charges of sexually exploiting minor girls on the pretext of treatment.

The quack, identified as Hussain Ali (45) of neighbouring Hojai district, was residing in the village for sometime and purportedly practising traditional medicine.

He allegedly sexually abused two girls over last two days after locking them inside his room in the pretext of treatment. When the girls complained to their parents, the villagers gathered at the quack’s house on July 4 morning and bet up the man.

The village headman informed the local Donkamukam police station and police rushed to the spot to rescue the victim. The quack was taken to local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police have registered a case and started investigation.
