A 50-year-old man, who was arrested on charges of rape of three minor, was injured in police firing in Assam’s Morigaon district on December 23.

Accused Rajani Kanta Daimary was arrested on December 22 for allegedly raping three minor girls in Morigaon district of Assam. Daimary was arrested after a family member of the survivor’s family logged a complaint against him.

Police claimed that Daimary was “shot in the leg as he tried to escape from custody”.

According to police, the firing took place while accused Rajani Kanta Daimary was taken by a police team to the crime scene to recover evidence related to the rape of the three minor girls.

He was admitted to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Guwahati on December 23 morning.

The accused Daimary was absconding after allegedly committing the crime and police caught him on December 22.
