Guwahati is gearing up to celebrate cinema in a form that was never seen before in the region. The 1st Guwahati International Film Festival, organized by the Jyoti Chitraban Film Studio with support from the Assam government, is set to showcase more than 80 films from across the world.

The delegate registration for the 1st Guwahati International Film Festival (GIFF) is now open for all. As the stage is set for the grand film fest, registrations of delegates has already picked pace.

The GIFF which is being organized by Jyoti Chitraban Film Studio with the support of Assam government in association with Bhupen Hazarika Regional Government Film and Television Institute will start from October 28 and will continue till November 2.

The festival will take place in two different places in the city – at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra and Jyoti Chitraban Film Studio.

Earlier, chairman of Jyoti Chitraban Society Pabitra Margherita said that around 80 films from more than 25 countries, including India, will be screened in the six-day festival.

Speaking to the News Mill, festival director Monita Borgohain said that the bouquet of films participating in the first ever Guwahati International Film Festival will surely excite film lovers. “We are receiving a good response in terms of participation of films. We hope to showcase best of the talents and wish that the people of the region benefit from this festival,” said festival director Monita Borgohain while explaining the preparations for the festival. Borgohain added that registering as a delegate will enable oneself to watch the 80 films besides giving them an opportunity to participate in the open forum sessions.

The delegate registration can be done through the official website giff.assam.gov.in which incurs a minimum delegate fee of Rs 150 for students and Rs 300 for other categories.

The festival will have various sections like Indian Panorama, World Cinema, Retrospective, Cinema of northeast, Tribute and a section on films from Assam.

Turkey will be the country in focus in this festival.
