Meghalaya governor Satya Pal Malik

Goa Governor Satya Pal Malik will soon take charge as Meghalaya governor.

Media reports, quoting unnamed Raj Bhavan sources, said that Malik is expected to be sworn in as governor of Meghalaya “on or before August 30”.

President Ram Nath Kovind has appointed Malik as Meghalaya governor, the Rashtrapati Bhavan said on August 18, adding that Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari will assume additional charge of Goa.

However, there was no mention of incumbent Tathagata Roy, who completed his five-year tenure by serving as governor of Tripura for three years and the remaining two years in Meghalaya.

Roy on August 18 took to Twitter and welcomed his successor Satya Pal Malik to Shillong. “Upon receipt of news from Rashtrapati Bhavan (about the transfer), I spoke to Shri Satyapal Malikji, the new governor-designate and welcomed him to Shillong (Meghalaya). It may take him a little time to come here. I was supposed to have been relieved on May 20. Now the end of the road is in sight!” he tweeted.

Welcoming the appointment, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma tweeted: “We look forward to welcoming the governor to our beautiful state of Meghalaya”.
