Science teacher, family try to sacrifice minor girl in Udalguri district

Following instructions of a self-styled godman, a science teacher and his family members allegedly tried to sacrifice a 3-year-old minor girl in Assam’s Udalguri district on Saturday.

The incident took place at Kulsipara area near Kalaigaon where a science teacher named Jadab Saharia and his family members had allegedly tried to sacrifice the minor girl following the instructions of a self-styled godman named Ramesh Saharia hailing from Baneikuchi village in Darrang district of Assam.

The godman asked Saharia and his family members to strip while chants of mantras echoed his residence. Some locals came to the rescue of the minor when they got information about the evil plan.

The teacher and his family members had earlier set a motorcycle and car on fire. They also vandalised their household items and set those on fire.

There were a total of eight members in the house at the time of the incident.

Locals immediately informed police about the incident and a police and para-military team reached the area.

When locals and security personnel tried to rescue the family members, the self-styled godman, Jadab Saharia and his son allegedly attacked the locals, police personnel and journalists with machete and axe.

When the situation turned violent, police personnel were forced to fire several round of bullets, in which two of them were injured.

The injured persons were rushed to nearby hospital.

Locals alleged that the self-styled godman Ramesh Saharia was conducting puja rituals at Jadab’s house for the last several days. “The overall incident has indicated that, they had performed it under superstitious beliefs. They performed puja by stripping off their clothes which was very unusual,” a local resident said.
