Firecrackers, seized by police from the illegal fire cracker manufacturing units during Diwali exploded accidentally at the premises of Patkura police station in Odisha on February 26.

The fire crackers exploded when Patkura police station I/C, Sujit Kumar Pradhan, was defusing the fire crackers.

The intensity of the blast was so massive that not only the police station building but also the houses located near the police station were shaken and local people rushed to the police station to know what happened.

A youth was injured after a portion of concrete fell on his shoulder. But, the police personnel said no damage or major injury occurred to anybody in the explosion.

Pradhan said huge cache of seized illegal fire crackers, stored in malkhana of Patkura police station, were brought on February 26 by the police personnel to an open area within the police station premises to destroy it. During the process some of the fire crackers exploded accidentally. The magnitude of the explosion led to major vibrations in the locality, said Pradhan.
