Dimapur floods – The News Mill

Incessant rains that continued over the past few days in Nagaland inundated several low-lying areas of Dimapur town affecting a good number of populations as some areas are under waist-deep water destroying vehicles and household items.

Official sources said that heavy rains on the night on Friday triggered a flash flood-like situation in Police colony, Bank colony, Ragailong colony, Chungaizang colony, Namgalong colony, Bangjak Phom colony and some other areas were also affected as water level rose due to clogged drains.

In Bangjak Phom colony, over hundred households were inundated by rainwater.

Deputy Commissioner Dimapur, Kevekha Kevin Zehol visited the affected areas at Bangjak Phom colony.

Sources informed that around 900 persons from 400 households in the colony were affected by the flood. A makeshift camp was also provided for the affected households, where Indian Red Cross, Dimapur district branch donated tarpaulin/tent, essential commodities like potatoes, oil, onions. Rotary Club also donated drinking water, while rice and other essential commodities were provided by district administration.

The district authorities are yet to assess the extent of damages, sources said.
