Several people have been reportedly missing after a country-made boat capsized in Jia Bharali river in Assam’s Sonitpur district on October 17.

According to reports, the boat was heading from Bihia Gaon near Lal Tapu to Panch Mile area in Tezpur when it turned upside down.

Around 70-80 people, along with several motor bikes, were onboard when the vessel capsized.

Locals were travelling to Tezpur Panch Mile for weekly market which is set up on every Thursdays.

A few people swam to safety. A video of the people swimming to safety has gone viral.

Meanwhile, SDRF and district administration personnel reached the spot to rescue the missing people.
