Shillong Lajong FC got the better of Malki SC in the ongoing Under-18 Shillong Premier League encounter by 2-1.

Malki got on the score sheet first in the first half while Lajong came back in the second half with 2 goals to take all three points.

The match had a slow build up in the first half as both teams tried to create chances in front of goal. Malki suffered a red card in the 25th minute but managed to take the lead in the 31st minute after a goal was scored by PK Suting.

While the Lajong youngsters worked hard, they couldn’t find the net. Lajong youngster, Donboklang troubled Malki’s defence on several occasions with his blistering pace but Malki’s defence remained resolute.

The second half was much improved for Lajong as they had more possession and controlled the game. Malki worked hard on the counter but were not clinical. Lajong eventually equalised in the 52nd minute after a corner was not cleared by Malki’s defence and Romen pounced on the opportunity to tap the ball in the net.

A couple of minutes later, it was Samuel who gave Lajong the lead after beating the keeper with a half volley shot towards goal. Past the hour mark, there was a collision between Lajong’s goalkeeper and Malki’s striker which resulted in the latter being taken off the field on a stretcher. The incident resulted in two red cards being shown to Malki’s forward player and Lajong’s goalkeeper after an altercation.

Thereafter, the game had more intensity and Lajong continued to press and were unlucky not to double the lead. The game ended 2-1 in favour of Lajong youngsters.

The Reds have now gathered two wins from two matches and will play their next Under-18 SPL match on June 9 against Boys Sports Coy 58 GTC.
