Sikkim CM PS Goley to contest bypoll on October 21

P S Golay – The News Mill

Sikkim Chief Minister PS Goley will contest the upcoming by-election in the state to be held on October 21.

Welcoming the bypoll announcement, chief minister’s political secretary said, “We are prepared for the elections. PS Goley, who is chief of Sikkim Krantikari Morcha, will be contesting the polls. We had said earlier also that he will remain the CM.”

“BJP is not our opposition. SKM and BJP are allies,” he said pointing out that SKM faces no threat from the saffron party.

The political secretary claimed that SKM will have no problem in winning the bypoll.

After 10 MLAs of archrival SDF defected to BJP, SKM’s position is strengthened in the state.

Golay is not a member of the state assembly at present as he did not contest the Assembly polls.

The SKM, founded in 2013, won a slender majority in the 32-member Sikkim Legislative Assembly by bagging 17 seats against 15 won by the SDF. The Pawan Kumar Chamling government was ousted by the SKM after over 24 years.
