The Sikkim government has decided to start one-stop online service for registration of taxis, renewal of licences, payment of vehicle taxes and licenses in the state.

Chief Minister PS Goley in a meeting with his council of ministers on June 27 said that the services will be made available online for the taxi operators in the state.

Further, the chief minister announced that taxi stands and syndicates will be handed over to taxi drivers association, salary of school teachers will be paid through their bank accounts and land mutation in the name of siblings will not require any payment.

A board will be constituted to identify genuine Below Poverty Line people within 90 days, so that they get access to new schemes. In course of time more people-centric schemes will be introduced, the chief minister said.

Tourism is a major industry in Sikkim. The state beckons domestic and international tourists in hordes, particularly during the summer months. It is known for its ecological diversity, waterfalls, lakes, hills and religious places. Tsomgo Lake, Baba Harbhajan Singh Temple and Nathula Pass in East Sikkim and Lachung, Lachen, Gurudongmar lake etc in North Sikkim, besides capital city of Gangtok, are a few of the popular areas for the tourists.
