Sikkim government has issued revised standard operating procedure (SOP) for movement of people into the state amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The SOP issued by the Sikkim Health department, taking note of the central government’s Unlock 4 guidelines, have been enforced from September 1 itself.

The new SOP is expected to benefit the labourers. They will now be allowed entry on the request of employer, company, contractor, business proprietor. “Whosoever requests will have to sponsor the worker, pay for his quarantine, whether home, paid or project site and testing also in case it is done,” an official said.

If the worker gets COVID-19 positive and undergoes treatment, the company or whosoever is responsible for bringing him will pay for the same.

These SOPs will help the labourers and also give them sense of security, the official added.
