Police had arrested six dacoits in Assam’s Nagaon district who had looted Rs 1.5 lakh from an employee of a petrol pump on October 13.

An employee of a petrol pump at Kathiatoli area in Nagaon district was injured after the dacoits fired upon him. The dacoits had looted Rs 1.5 lakh from the petrol pump employee on October 11.

According to reports, following the incident the Nagaon district police had launched operation at different locations in the district and arrested the six-member dacoit gang on Sunday.

The arrested dacoits were identified as Md Nuruddin, Md Omar Faruk, Md Suruj Ali, Md Sarabat Ali, Md Kitab Ali and Md Jogdadul Islam.

Police had also recovered one 7.65 mm pistol with magazine, two rounds of live ammunition and two bikes which were used in executing the crime.

Nagaon district Superintendent of Police (SP) Shankar Brata Raimedhi said that during interrogation the arrested persons had confessed that they were involved in the looting and shooting incident.

“Following the incident, we had launched operation at four different locations in the district against the people who were involved in the firing incident at Kathiatoli petrol pump. We had arrested six persons and during interrogation we found that, these six persons were involved in the incident,” Raimedhi said.
