Sonowal attends platinum jubilee Raas festival at Kampur

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on November 15 attended the platinum jubilee celebration of Kampur Raas Festival at Kampur in Nagaon district. Sonowal also laid the foundation stone of the Monikut of Kampur Kendriya Naamghar on the occasion.

Addressing a public gathering, Sonowal said that instilling discipline in the society is the main objective of the Raas Festival which is being celebrated across Assam.

“Spirituality has always been providing moral lessons and a society can progress only through devotion and spirituality. Instilling discipline in the society through devotion to Lord Krishna and strengthen all aspects of the society are the main objectives of Raas Festival,” Sonowal said.

Saying that naamghars in different parts of the state have always been the flag-bearers of harmony and unity, Chief Minister Sonowal stated that naamghars also acted as judiciaries in their areas resolving disputes and quarrels. “Gurujona established the naamghars to remove superstitions and other such social ills and people of various sections of the society have showed a great example of unity by performing kirtan etc in the Kampur Kendriya Naamghar,” he said.

The chief minister also urged the people to commit themselves to preserve nature and biodiversity of the state following Lord Krishna’s teachings and also asked them to promote the humane values in face of challenges posed by modern social evils.
