Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on July 4 discussed with Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan ways of leveraging the hydrocarbon potential of Assam to develop the state as a promising hydrocarbon hub.

Calling on Pradhan at New Delhi, Sonowal appreciated the Union government’s initiatives in developing the oil and gas infrastructure in Assam and stressed on speedy implementation of the new projects in the hydrocarbon sector in the state.

The chief minister highlighted issues such as an expansion of Numaligarh Refinery, implementation of bio-refinery at Numaligarh, North East Gas Grid, Barauni-Guwahati Natural Gas Pipeline etc. during the discussion. He further said timely completion of the projects would significantly boost economic growth in the state and generate better employment opportunities in the oil and gas sector in the region.

Sonowal also congratulated the Union minister and conveyed best wishes for his new tenure. The Union minister assured the chief minister all support on behalf of the central government in developing the oil and gas infrastructure in Assam.

He, moreover, informed that work to penetrate 100 per cent of households with LPG connection is being done in a speedy manner.
