Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has instituted an inquiry into the accident at Kopili Hydel Project of North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO) in Umngsu in which 4 people went missing.

A communication from the Chief Minister’s Office on October 11 said that CM Sonowal has asked DIG South Assam Division PK Dutta to carry out the inquiry.

Besides, the chief minister has asked Minister in Charge of Hill Areas Development, Mines and Minerals, Sum Ronghang to visit the accident site with a team to take stock of the situation. The team will include MP Haren Sing Bay, MLA BB Hagjer, Chief Executive Member of Dima Haso Autonomous Council Debolal Gorlosa.

Sonowal held a meeting with the senior officers of NEEPCO on October 11 and took stock of the incident. He asked the officials to take technology-driven remedial steps to avert the recurrence of such incidents in the future.
