Sonowal reviews Ambubachi Mela preparations at Kamakhya temple

Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal held a review meeting to assess the preparations for the ensuring Ambubachi Mela at the Kamakhya temple in Guwahati on June 18.

The chief minister, along with state Tourism Minister Chandan Brahma, officials from various departments, police, local administration and temple authorities, reviewed the preparations that are put into place for the celebrations of the annual socio-spiritual congregation.

The Ambubachi Mela begins on June 22 and will continue till June 25.

During the meeting, Sonowal directed all departments and district administration to put everything in place for the smooth conduct of the festival. He pointed out that since lakhs of devotees from across the country and outside will converge on the Neelachal hill, all arrangements including fool-proof security measures should be put into place for the convenience of the devotees.

The chief minister took stock of transportation, drinking water, medical, electricity, cleanliness etc and observed that under no circumstances these facilities should be undermined. He also directed all the departments to be on their toes to embrace 25 lakh devotees who will be coming to Kamakhya temple during the festival.

“Assam is known for its hospitality and age-old tradition of according highest respect to pilgrims and visitors. Like the previous years, this year’s Ambubachi Mela will be no exception as the state will embrace lakhs of devotees during the five-day religious congregation,” the chief minister said.
