Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that the present state government has laid special importance for the equal development of all 33 districts of the state. He alleged that the three hill districts of the state were not given much importance by the previous governments.

Speaking at the 67th foundation day celebration of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council in Diphu on June 23, Sonowal acknowledged the immense role of the Karbis in forging a greater Assamese society.

Sonowal, while congratulating the people of Karbi Anglong, said that both Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong districts have immense potentials. He urged the people to work hard to utilize the verdant potentials to make the districts attractive tourists’ destinations of the state.

Sonowal also appealed to the parents and teachers of Kari Anglong districts to educate their wards and students with moral values to help them to get rid of the myriad influence of superstitions. Referring to the recent killing of two youth in Dokmoka in Karbi Anglong district, Sonowal while condemning the barbaric incident said that the innocent people of Karbi Anglong need to be apprehensive as the state government is committed to provide safety and security to all residents of the state. He also maintained that the perpetrators of the barbaric killing will be handed out exemplary punishment.

He at the same time thanked litterateur and former president of Axom Sahitya Sabha, Rong Bong Terang, for speaking on the age-old amity and friendship of Karbi Anglong with the mainstream of the state and eased the situation amid tensions.

He also thanked chief executive member of KAAC Tuliram Ronghang for taking decision of installing two statues of the youth at Karbi Anglong and hoped that this would strengthen the friendship and bonhomie between the hills and plains of Assam.

Sonowal said that to fight against the ills of superstitions, Assam government has introduced a programme called ‘Sanskar’ at every development block in the state.

Sonowal conveyed his government’s support and help to Tuliram Ronghang-led autonomous administration in Karbi Anglong and said that the state government would ensure that under the present dispensation all the sections of the people of the hill district enjoy the fruits of development. He said that besides central government schemes, state government has also adopted special scheme for the expeditious infrastructural development of the district. Moreover, Rs 100 crore package has also been provided in the state budget.

Diphu medical college, law college, sports projects are some of the projects that the state government has announced for Karbi Anglong district.
