Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on April 17 requested his Meghalaya counterpart Conrad Sangma to ensure hassle-free passage of vehicles carrying essential commodities from Guwahati to Barak Valley of southern Assam and vice-versa through Meghalaya.

In a telephonic conversation with Sangma, Sonowal said since vehicles carrying essential commodities for Barak Valley pass through the territory of Meghalaya, a helping hand from the authorities of Meghalaya enables the state government of Assam to reach out to the people of Barak Valley faster.

Sangma assured Sonowal of taking adequate steps for ensuing seamless transportation of essential commodities through Meghalaya without any disruption.

Both the CM also talked on the situation created by the corona pandemic and steps taken by both the neighbouring states to contain the outbreak.

Meanwhile, Sonowal on April 17 called several eminent personalities from different walks of life of the state.

Sonowal while greeting them on the occasion of Rongali Bihu and Assamese New Year talked to them over the prevailing situation in the state.
