Bringing laurels to the education sector in Northeast India, Tezpur University and IIT Guwahati were ranked among the top 150 institutes in Asia by the Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings 2017.

The Tezpur University attained position between 131-140 in the rankings released by Times Higher Education on March 15. The Asia University Rankings 2017 includes higher education institutions from the 24 Asian countries.

India doubled its representations in the rankings, claiming 33 places in the list, up from 16 last year. The Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore was ranked the top Indian institute as it secured 27th position in the Asian rankings. The other Indian universities that occupied positions before Tezpur University were – Venkatesh University, Jadavpur University and Punjab University.

Delhi University has been placed in the same position along with Tezpur University in the ranking. IIT, Guwahati was placed in the 101-110 rank along with Jadavpur University.

The Asia University Rankings used 13 performance indicators which were earlier used to prepare the Times Higher Education World University Rankings. This time, it was recalibrated to reflect the attributes of Asia’s universities. The universities were judged across all of their core missions – teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook – to provide the most comprehensive and balanced comparisons available.

Earlier, Tezpur University professor Niranjan Karak won the prestigious annual Visitor’s Award for research.
