The third edition of the Nagaland Film Festival, coinciding with the Hornbill Festival in the Northeast state, began on December 3.
The film festival will be held at the Capital Convention Center in Kohima. Organized by the Nagaland government’s Department of Information & Public Relations (DIPR) in collaboration with the Film Association of Nagaland (FAN) and National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), the Nagaland Film Festival will be held till December 5.
On the inaugural day on December 3, the films – ‘Angh’, ‘An Engineered Dream’, ‘Bethlehem’, and ‘Look at the Sky’ were screened. During the festival, a masterclass on film tourism was presented by Alexander Pou and workshop on scriptwriting was conducted by Munish Bhardwaj.
Earlier, Nagaland chief secretary J Alam attended the Nagaland Film Festival as a special guest. Speaking at the inaugural function, the chief secretary stated that films have the potential to play an important role as a medium of entertainment, information and education and as a catalyst for social change. He added that films are a facet of a mass culture and mass art.
Alam added that films made by Naga filmmakers have been creating an impact not only in the national level but also in the international arena. He added that the Nagaland Film Festival has garnered a very positive response with participation from filmmakers from across the nation and beyond.
He said that filmmakers are turning their interests to the Northeast region. Adding that the film industry has one of the highest potentials to provide employment opportunities, the chief secretary expressed with optimism that the sector in the state will grow and make a mark at the national and international level.
During the occasion, results of the online film competition was declared. The first prize was bagged by Tiakumzuk Pongener for ‘Abnoral’. The second prize went to Cimematixx for ‘The Dancing Philosopher’. The third prize was won by joint winners, Kupe-ü Krome for ‘The Bright Side’ and Rehti Thonger for ‘Forever & Always’. The winners received cash award along with certificates.
