In a tragic incident, three members of a family were reportedly buried alive when their dwelling house came under the landslide, triggered by incessant rains, at Arzoo village in Dibang Valley district of Arunachal Pradesh.

“Three members of the same family, a mother and her two children (son and daughter), reportedly were buried alive after their house was washed by a landslide at Arzoo village, 85 kms from Anini, last evening,” an official said on May 26.

“This is a preliminary report,” Dibang Valley DC Wayong Khimhun added.

He further said that he has rushed an official to the incident site.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pema Khandu has expressed shock and sorrow over the loss of three lives of a family.

Conveying his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members who fell prey to nature’s fury, Khandu in a statement said that the state and its people are with the victims during this trying time.

He announced the immediate release of ex-gratia of Rs four lakh each to next of kin of the deceased persons.

Assuring all possible support from the state Government, Khandu directed the district administration and the disaster management department to continuously monitor the situation.

Stating that the entire world is fighting COVID -19 pandemic, Khandu said, “Arunachal has added problem of natural disaster every year.”

He appealed the people living in the low land areas to shift in safer places while requesting those residing in landslide-prone areas to immediately get to safer locations.

Khandu issued directives to respective Deputy Commissioners and Disaster Management Department to monitor the situation regularly.
