Three COVID-19 patients flee quarantine in Assam
Causing panic among the people as well as administration, three COVID-19 positive patients had escaped from a quarantine centre in Guwahati. Police, however, managed to nab them and put them into hospitals later.
Two of the patients hailed from Nalbari district, while one was from Hojai district.
Informing of the incident, Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “Three COVID-19 positive patients, Hamidul Ahmed and Shajahal Ali of Nalbari, Md Saidul Alam of Hojai, escaped from Sarusajai quarantine centre causing us immense stress.”
He thanked Nalbari police and Hojai police for apprehending them in time, adding, “Such acts shall attract punitive measures.”
The Nalbari patients have been admitted at the civil hospital there, while the person from Hojai has been kept at MMC Hospital in Guwahati.
The total number of COVID-19 positive cases in the state is at 157 at present, out of which 41 have recovered and four have died so far.
