Manipur CM N Biren Singh at a flag hoisting ceremony of a BJP candidate in Imphal

Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh said that BJP tickets were given to those who worked hard to save the BJP-led government in Manipur.

Biren Singh added that the party offered the tickets to the legislators who came from other parties acknowledging the role they had taken to save the BJP-led coalition government.

The chief minister was addressing a BJP election meeting on February 7 in Sagolband constituency of Imphal West district after attending a flag hoisting ceremony of RK Imo who will be contesting on BJP ticket this time.

After he was suspended from the party by the Congress, RK Imo recently joined the BJP and the party also offered him the ticket to contest the ensuing elections from Sagolband constituency.

In his address, the chief minister hinted that some leaders within his party were involved in the attempts to topple his government on many occasions. However, some legislators crossing the party line came out openly and saved the government from collapsing. As a token of appreciation, the party offered tickets to them, Biren Singh added.

When the Bharatiya Janata Party released the list of its 60 candidates for the ensuing polls in the 60-seat Manipur Legislative Assembly, three of its sitting legislators and many leaders associated with the party for a long time were denied the party tickets.

Not happy over ticket denial to the candidates of their choice, a good number of workers left the party after setting fire the party flags and banners as a mark of protest against the decision of the party leadership. Many of these aspirant candidates joined other political parties to contest the ensuing polls.
