The BJP Tripura state committee held a high level preparatory meeting for ensuing three-tier panchayat poll to 6,111 seats of 591 gram panchayats, 419 seats of 35 panchayat samitis and 116 seats for eight Zilla Parishad scheduled in the end of next month.

Besides, the party president and Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, party general secretary Rajib Bhattacharjee and BJP election committee chairman and education minister Ratan Lal Nath have addressed the party leaders and issued direction to ensure free and fair election and stay away from the indulgence of opposition.

The meeting was attended by top leaders of ten political districts of BJP, MLAs and presidents of the respective Mandals of the party. According to report, the meeting had an elaborate discussion on the candidate selection considering the set criteria of the party and grassroot level campaign strategies.

As per the direction, the party has already received the proposal of three names against each seat from the local level and now the election committee will select the candidate based on the ground level report and personal image of the intending candidates soon.

However, chief minister has directed the party leaders to start work at household level on the development schemes of Modi government and how it was helping the progress and sustainable community based development.

“The Modi led government in last five years had launched as many as 130 schemes, which are directly linked with rural livelihood and community development. The government has been working for equitable health, education and livelihood opportunities for all by introducing health insurance, best quality education at government run schools and basic livelihood support through public distribution system (PDS),” Deb told his leaders.

He also pointed out that visionary leader like Narendra Modi has been working for mostly the downtrodden and rural population and there has been a visible change in the paradigm of development in short span and added, “Slow but steady growth of economy and development of rural India will be sustainable for long, which this country desperately looking for since independence but not happened. But the real transformation has started five years ago and slowly the people are realizing it.”

Referring to last Lok Sabha election, the party leaders were reminded that the opposition parties well-before the general election resorted to violent tactics by infusing their workers in BJP fold and unnecessary the name of Tripura was defamed by the vested quarter just to counter the announcement of BJP-IPFT government to make Tripura as model in next three years. And alerted that in the panchayat election too the same elements will try to create problem where BJP leadership has to take firm stand.
