Child actor, Matin Rey Tangu, who was seen alongside Bollywood actor Salman Khan in the movie ‘Tubelight’, has been awarded the ‘Best actor male debutant’ at the Zee Cine Awards in Mumbai on Tuesday.

The award ceremony will be telecast by Zee TV on December 30. However, Matin could not receive the award in person due to his preoccupations in his hometown in Arunachal Pradesh.

He was earlier nominated for ‘Best child actor’ for ‘Tubelight’ by Star Screen Awards recently in Mumbai.

On his win, Matin thanked the Mukesh Chhabra Casting Company, ‘Tubelight’ director Kabir Khan and Salman Khan Films-SKF for giving him the opportunity. He also thanked all his well-wishers from Arunachal Pradesh for their support and encouragement.

Matin rose to fame during the promotions for ‘Tubelight’ when he shut down a reporter for her comment on Arunachal. The promotional event, which was filled with moments of wonder, took an embarrassing turn when a reporter asked Matin if this is the first time he is visiting India, assuming he is Chinese.

The boy replied, “Hum India per hi baithta hai, toh India par aayega hi kaise (I live in India so, how will I come to India),” as the crowd emerged in cheers and applause.
