Assam police lost two of its personnel during a flood rescue operation under Kampur police station in Nagaon district on June 19 night.

Officer in charge of Kampur police station Samujjal Kakoti and constable Rajiv Bordoloi died after they were swept away by the flood waters.

Special DGP (Law and Order) of Assam GP Singh said that a police team fell in a water body in the Kampur area of Nagaon. Samujjal jumped in the water to save them but he was swept away by the waves. Rajiv also lost his life in the process.

“Late last night (June 19) information was received of some people marooned in flood water, OC Samujjal Kakoti along with team had proceeded on operations to rescue the marooned people,” said GP Singh on Twitter.

Their bodies were received on June 20.

“We salute your courage and bravery UB Constable Rajib Bordoloi of Nagaon DEF. You sacrificed your life without batting an eyelid. Your selfless act would be an inspiration to future generations of @assampolice. We bow our heads in grief and gratitude. Om Shanti,” GP Singh tweeted.

Assam DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta said it’s very tough to accept the death of a colleague, especially in the line of duty.

“My heartfelt & sincere condolences to the bereaved families of the brave hearts and at this critical moment, please know that each member of 60,000+ Assam Police stands in solidarity with you,” Mahanta wrote on Twitter.
