Two persons were killed and one was in a critical condition when a scooty collided head-on with a motorcycle at National Highway 31 near Bhawanipur in Barpeta district of Assam on August 5 at around 12 noon.
“The scooty rider, Sanjay Bayan (33), a businessman, who was trying to cross the road, was hit by a motorcycle. They were immediately taken to the local hospital. But Bayan died at the spot while the unidentified motorcycle rider died at the hospital,” said Moon Das, an eye witness. The third person involved in the accident, who was the pillion rider on the scooty, was being treated at a local hospital.
“This is an accident prone zone. We have complained several times to the concerned authorities. But they didn’t give us any solution. We also staged several protests earlier. Now we are blocking the National Highway until they give us concurrent assurance to solve the problem,” Das further added.
The Barpeta Police has arrived at the spot and started the investigation.
