Police on Sunday arrested two people on charges of trafficking a Rohingya girl in Moreh, a border town in Manipur. The police team found a 20-year-old Rohingya woman allegedly held captive by the duo.

Police said that the two were taken into custody from their rented house late on Saturday. Mohammad Salam, 25, and Mohammad Seifullah, 30, were remanded in police custody.

The girl told the police that she entered Manipur through the international border at Moreh.

Police said that around 8:30 pm on Saturday, they received reliable information that some Rohingyas from Myanmar were staying at Moreh Ward No 5 area with trafficked girls from foreign country to engage them in prostitution. “Immediately, a police team rushed to the area and conducted house search and picked up two Rohingyas who are suspected to be involved in trafficking girls along with one woman suspected to be trafficked by them. All the three persons have been arrested,” said a statement released by Tengnoupal district Superintendent of Police, S Ibomcha Singh.
