Two persons, including a minor, were charred to death after a massive fire engulfed over 110 houses in a remote village in Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh on March 18, police said.

The fire occurred around 11 am at Longliang village under Lazu circle, 45 km away from the district headquarters Khonsa in Arunachal Pradesh.

Tirap SP Kardak Riba said the deceased have been identified as Jenlong Wangsa (60) and Monya Khotey (five), adding 114 houses were gutted in the fire.

Deputy commissioner Taro Mize said that essential commodities like rice, salt and potatoes have been sent through special relief teams to meet up basic needs, adding he along with the SP and head of departments would be visiting the fire victims and bereaved families on March 19 along with more relief items.

Mize further said that Arunachal pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu, who was in Sikkim on a tour, and ministers Wangki Lowang and Honchun Ngandam and other leaders were informed about the incident.

The cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained.
