At least two persons were killed in separate incidents as poll related violence incidents were reported across the six districts where the second and final round of voting in Manipur was held on March 5.
One of the two was killed in firing allegedly by security force personnel on poll duty at Ngamju polling station under Karong constituency of Senapati district of Manipur at the initial hours of the voting in the polling station. Another person was also critically injured in the firing, reports said.
While the other one was shot dead by miscreants at Wangjing-Tentha constituency of Thoubal district minutes ahead of commencement of the voting in the polling station.
The victim of the Ngamju polling station was identified as K Longvao (25), son of T Kah of Ngamju village while the injured one as V Saope (25), son of S Vane from the same village as the deceased.
The injured person was evacuated to Manipur capital Imphal by a chopper and admitted at the ICU of RIMS hospital with bullet injuries. A bullet hit on the left side of his neck exited on the right side of his belly, reports said.
The body of the deceased has also been transferred at JNIMS morgue for necessary legal procedure, the report said.
Reports said that the security personnel on poll duty at the polling station allegedly fired some rounds of guns after a clash erupted inside the polling station after miscreants tried to snatch the EVM.
However, while claiming that both the deceased and injured were workers of the BJP candidate from the constituency, the polling agent of the BJP candidate lodged a written complaint to the returning officer (RO) of the constituency.
While demanding a magisterial enquiry, the polling agent alleged that they were shot by the security forces without giving any proper reason or warning.
Five candidates are in the fray from Karong seat of the Manipur assembly.
The deceased in the poll related violence incident in Wangjing-Tentha constituency of Thoubal district was identified as Leimapokpam Amuba Singh (24), son of L Binoy of Wangjing Hodamba Maning Leikai.
With three bullet hit marks on his belly, Amuba was immediately evacuated to Raj Medicity hospital where he succumbed to injuries at the hospital, around 6 am, reports said.
In a separate incident in the same constituency, miscreants also burned down a house belonging to one Rakesh at Tentha in the intervening night of March 4 and 5.
