From January 20, you can request for a sedan to hop-in-hop-off in Guwahati as cab aggregator Uber launched its new product UberX. Singer, music composer and producer Angaraag ‘Papon’ Mahanta launched the service in Guwahati as he took the first ride to experience the product.

Uber launched its services in Guwahati in August 2015, with uberGO as its first service offering. With the launch of UberX, the company is expanding its offering to include sedans and give riders an added option to an affordable ride at the tap of a button.

While unveiling the product, general manager at Uber Guwahati Arpit Mundra said, “We are thrilled by the growth and positive response we’ve seen in Guwahati. With the launch of UberX, we will give our riders another premium option to get around town comfortably in a sedan with top notch service, and at an affordable price. With this launch, we are also looking forward to creating more economic opportunities in Guwahati in the form of micro entrepreneurs.”

In a video released by Uber, Papon said, “I am really excited to hop into the first Uber X ride in Guwahati to take me around the city that I love.”

Speaking on the service, Assam commissioner of transport Puru Gupta said, “I am pleased to note that Uber is launching UberX for the people of Guwahati. I’m hopeful that this will widen the spectrum of convenient choices available to the citizens on the digital platform.”

Earlier, Uber had launched an all inclusive Rs 1499 service between Guwahati and Shillong.

Uber is available in 29 Indian cities – more than any other country outside the United States.
