Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh announced that the state government had proposed for two ropeway projects under Parvatmala: National Ropeways Development Programme of the central government including Shiroy – Ukhrul – Mahadeva ropeway and Loktak ropeway.

CM Biren Singh said this on April 26 during the felicitation programme organised for him by Tangkhul civil society organisations at TNL Ground, Ukhrul district headquarters, for leading the state government for the second term.

Upon his arrival at the district headquarters, the chief minister was accorded a warm welcome by various organisations, a DIPR report said.

The Tangkhul civil society organisations, which jointly organised the felicitation programme, were Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL), Tangkhul Naga Wungnao Long (TNWL), Tangkhul Shanao Long (TSL), Tangkhul Katamnao Shaklong (TKS), Tangkhul Maya Ngala Long (TMNL) and Tangkhul Ato Longphang (TAL), the DIPR report also said.

Speaking on the occasion, N Biren Singh “wholeheartedly” appreciated the civil society organisations for the warm welcome accorded to him. He continued that the central leaders knew the importance of maintaining a healthy relationship between hill and valley people and as such, had appointed Khasim Vashum, MLA of Chingai constituency, as one of his council of ministers.

Stating that his politics had always been based on humanity and development, the chief minister maintained that the state government had been giving focus on all round development including adequate supply of drinking water as priority. He also stressed the need for joint effort of all to achieve a new height of development.

Informing that the state government had taken up water supply scheme, with a project cost of around Rs 3000 crore funded by New Development Bank, under the Jal Jeevan Mission-Har Ghar Jal Scheme, he added that the said project for Ukhrul district had been included in Phase-2 with a total cost of Rs 95 crore. Out of this, Rs 22 crore would be for proper Ukhrul only, he added.

Stating that there were lot more to do for development of the district, N Biren Singh informed that construction of Amuzement Park in Ukhrul would be completed soon as a part of the government’s “100 Action Points for First 100 Days”.

CM Biren Singh mentioned the government’s plan to carry out drain to drain blacktopping of roads maintaining that there would be no compromise in development projects, the DIPR report also said.

The Tangkhul civil society organisations also submitted memorandums to the chief minister in which the latter assured to look into the matter and take up necessary actions. The chief minister also interacted with representatives of various civil society organisations during his visit.
