Union minister Sarbananda Sonowal on September 27 was elected to the Rajya Sabha from Assam uncontested as no other candidate filed nomination papers for the vacant seat.

Sonowal had filed nomination papers for the bypolls of the Rajya Sabha seat on September 21.

Congratulating Sarbananda Sonowal, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted: “Hon Union Cabinet Minister Sri @sarbanandsonwal Dangoriya gets elected to the Rajya Sabha uncontested. My heartiest congratulations. I am delighted to have joined him for receiving the Certificate of Election to the Upper House at Assam Legislative Assembly today.”
