A combined team of Manipur Police and Assam Rifles has recovered 1.268 kg of brown sugar worth around Rs 2.53 crore in the international market during a check on a van originating from the border town Moreh on May 2, police said.

According to the police, the arrested driver of the van has been identified as Paominlun (40) of Churachandpur district.

The Manipur Police said that the combined team of Moreh police and troops of 40 Assam Rifles intercepted the contraband drug during a checking of the van which originated from Moreh at a police check post near Kondong Lairembi temple along NH-102 on May 2 afternoon, around 2 pm.

A total of 30 soap cases containing the brown sugar were found in the vehicle, the police added.
