Veteran journalist and Tripura CPI (M) state committee member Milan Dey Sarkar died in Agartala Govt Medical College (AGMC) after a cerebral stroke on June 12.

He was 68 and left behind his wife and several other relatives.

Dey Sarkar had been admitted in the hospital last week with the complaint of sudden deficiency of Sodium and Potassium in blood. The doctor had shifted him to ICU and put him on ventilation for the last five days.

He had started his career with a local daily and later joined CPI (M) mouthpiece Daily Desharkatha in the founding team of the party venture. He has been working as News Editor of the mouthpiece for last five years.

Milan Dey Sarkar was one of the founder members of Agartala Press Club and held several positions of the managing committee. Despite having ideological differences, Dey Sarkar was well accepted and respected in the journalist fraternity of the state.

Agartala Press Club (APC) has expressed deep condolence over the death of Dey Sarkar.

In separate messages, veteran journalist and president of APC Subal Dey and Secretary Pranab Sarkar condoled over his death and said, “Milan Dey Sarkar’s untimely death has caused irreparable damage in media. The club will always stand behind the family”.

Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb also holding the portfolio of Information and Cultural Affairs grief over the death of a veteran journalist. Former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and CPI (M) party have also expressed condolence to the family and assured that the party would not forget his contribution to the communist movement in Tripura.

Hundreds of journalists paid tribute to his mortal at Agartala Press Club and CPI (M) office before the last rite.
