Was looking for a job and found fame: Tripura dancer whose video went viral

Stuck at his home at Saboom in Agartala, due to the nationwide lockdown, Surajit Tripura wanted to restart work soon. The 19-year-old was forced to leave his restaurant job in Bengaluru. As the pandemic spread, Surajit, whose father is a farmer by profession, had no choice but to look for alternatives.

A few months later, Surajit Tripura is busy replying to media queries and has become the newest internet sensation as videos of his dance moves are doing viral rounds on the social media platforms!

Working as a guest service associate at Absolute Barbecues (AB’s) in Guwahati, Surajit was taking part in the customary birthday-anniversary celebrations at AB’s when the management noticed his dance skills and encouraged him to perform in front of the guests. A few viral videos later, a shy Surajit now finds himself in an “awkward” situation – his fans are growing. “I never imagined I will be loved so much. Just a few months back, I came to Guwahati looking for a job. Thanks to all those who appreciated my dance here at AB’s and uploaded the videos on social media. The love that I am getting is unbelievable,” the humble 19-year-old told The News Mill.

Surajit Tripura, addressing a gathering of media, food bloggers and guests at AB’s in Guwahati on February 17, said that he wants to become a professional dancer someday.

“I love dancing since my childhood. I learnt dancing through YouTube videos and television. I idolize (popular dancer) Raghav Juyal and when he shared one of my videos on Instagram, it was an unbelievable moment for me. I wish to speak to him someday,” he said.

The management at Absolute Barbecues (AB’s) has decided to help Surajit achieve his dream. Shubham Shukla, DGM, sales & marketing at Absolute Barbecues said that they will promote Surajit’s talent and help him enrol in a dance academy furthering his chance to participate in dance reality shows on TV. “Surajit deserves this appreciation. We are very happy to see the kind of response his viral videos have got. We want to help him achieve his dream,” he said.

Surajit Tripura will now travel to Kolkata, Bhubaneswar and other cities to perform.
