Junior Under-17 Women’s National Football Championship will begin on June 18 in five venues in Assam.

The championship is being organised by the All India Football Federation (AIFF) and being conducted by the Assam Football Association (AFA) in association with the sports and youth welfare department of the Assam government.

AFA president Naba Doley said that apart from Nehru Stadium, Sarusajai Sports Complex and Sports Authority of India (SAI) ground (all in Guwahati), Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education at Sonapur (outskirts of Guwahati) and Dimakuchi in Udalguri district will host the games.

Altogether 34 teams including the hosts Assam will participate in the tournament. The teams have been divided into eight groups. Assam has been clubbed in group G with Haryana, Puducherry and Gujarat.

“We are happy to announce that all the preparations have been completed to host this national championship. We are grateful to AIFF for the trust on us and Assam government for helping us with all the necessary arrangements,” said Doley on June 13.

All the matches will be played during the day hours while the matches to be held at Dimakuchi will be conducted under floodlights. The matches at Dimakuchi will start on June 21.

The quarterfinals will be played at Sarusajai (two) and at Sonapur (two) on June 29 and 30.

Sarusajai will host both the semifinals on July 2 and the final on July 4.

The teams and the officials will start to arrive from June 15 onwards.

Assam team:

A selection camp is being conducted at Dimakuchi to select the Assam team. The selection camp is being organised by Assam Football Association (AFA) with the help of Bhergaon Sports Association. Around 80 players from the AFA affiliated districts are participating in the camp.

AFC ‘C’ licensed coach Lochan Saikia is assisted by Royal Basumatary in the camp. The team will be announced on June 14.
