Following a media report of police personnel allegedly breaking rules to organise a get-together in Guwahati, the Assam chief secretary on July 7 ordered an enquiry into the matter.
Chief Secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna, in an order to the police commissioner of Guwahati, has asked the latter to conduct the enquiry and submit report, with intimation of disciplinary proceedings against those found guilty.
Referring to a newspaper report with photographs of police officers attending a party with alcoholic beverages reportedly during curfew hours and lockdown on July 6, the chief secretary added, “This reflects very poorly on the police men and displays a total disregard to orders under the Disaster Act.”
The newspaper report had claimed that several police officers had attended a party on a ship on the Brahmaputra river in Guwahati.
Guwahati as well as entire Kamrup Metro district is under lockdown to check spread of COVID-19.
