Coming in emergency aid of a six-year-old, an Indian army jawan saved the life of the toddler from drowning at the icy Sangetsar Lake in Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh.

Havildar Leki Passang of Arunachal Scouts Battalion saved the boy from drowning at Sangetsar Lake, which is also called the ‘Madhuri lake’.

Defence sources said, a tourist who witnessed the incident narrated that on January 28, they were enjoying salubrious weather of Sangetsar Lake located in Tawang when the toddler playfully got separated from his parents and slipped inside the ice covered lake where he sank in.

With this unfortunate incident happening, the crowd present there froze in shock. It was then Havildar Leki Passang without giving due regard to his own life, crawled upon the sleet for 25 meters and pulled the boy out of bone chilling water.

This act of valour and instant action by the soldier of Indian army saved the life of the kid. The soldier was on leave when this incident happened and has not thought twice before acting, Tezpur-based defence PRO said.

The Indian army has appreciated the efforts of the soldier and yet again bolstered their commitment towards humanitarian service even during peace, the PRO added.
