India’s latest track sensation Hima Das, who has been training under US coach MS Galina, is now focusing on fitness and more training. She also urged the youngsters to come out who wants to take sports as a career.

“I’m happy to be here. I’m thankful to the people who loved me a lot. But, I think my turning point was when I decided to leave my home and train in Guwahati under the watchful eyes of my two coaches. So, I believe if anyone wants to do well in sports or in any other fields, the youngsters must come out so that they can be guided and mentored to be champions,” Hima told The News Mill after she was felicitated by Assam governor Jagdish Mukhi.

Hima, who recently bettered her own record in 400 metre at the 58th National Inter State Senior Athletic Championships in Guwahati by clocking 51.13 seconds, also said that she is working hard to improve her performance. Next Hima will be participating in the Under 20 World Championships in Finland before going to Ukraine for training for the Asian Games which will be held in August in Jakarta.

“We are training hard under MS Galina madam who herself is an Olympic Bronze medal winner and her student is a world record holder in 400×4 rally. So we are lucky to have her. She is guiding us to better our performances. She has told us to have proper rest, food and training,” added Hima who hails from a small place called Dhing in Nagaon district of Assam.

Das also thanked the governor for felicitating her two coaches – Nipon Das and Nabajit Malakar – who she said played a vital role in shaping her career as an athlete.

Hailing the feat of the athlete, the governor said, “The nation, in general, and the state, in particular, is proud of the enviable record of Hima Das. In 2016, she started her passion for athletics and within a short span of time, she has bagged several medals through her hard work, perseverance and dedication”.

The governor also said that her consistency is worth appreciating. He said that all support will be provided to Hima to chase her dream. He believed that she will make the nation proud in the world arena and wished her all success for the World Junior Athletics Championship to be held in Finland as well as the forthcoming Asian Games.
