The Mizoram government on May 6 declared the state free of COVID-19, as its lone patient recovered.
A 50-year-old pastor, who had visited the Netherlands, was tested COVID-19 positive on March 24. He was the second COVID-19 patient from the Northeast after a Manipur girl tested positive.
Mizoram Health Minister R Lalthangliana informed that all the four samples of the patient that were collected in the last 24 hours have tested negative.
“He is likely to be discharged from the hospital by the end of this week,” Lalthangliana said.
“Mizoram can be declared as COVID-19-free state as we don’t have a single patient,” Lalthangliana added.
He further informed that 1,366 people are lodged in various quarantine facilities in all the 11 districts of the state.
Mizoram is the fourth state from the Northeast, after Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, and Nagaland, where COVID-19 patients recovered from the disease.
Sikkim has not reported any positive case.
