The Assam Police, in co-ordination with Dubai Police, recovered a limited-edition heritage Hublot watch belonging to legendary footballer Diego Maradona and arrested a person.

Police arrested a person identified as Wazid Hussein from Moranhat area in Assam’s Charaideo district.

Taking to Twitter, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that, in an act of international cooperation, Assam Police has coordinated with the Dubai Police through Indian federal LEA and had recovered the heritage Hublot watch which belonged to legendary footballer Diego Maradona. He informed that the police arrested one Wazid Hussein in connection with the case.

“In an act of international cooperation @assampolice has coordinated with @dubaipoliceHQ through Indian federal LEA to recover a heritage @Hublot watch belonging to legendary footballer Late Diego Maradona and arrested one Wazid Hussein. Follow up lawful action is being taken,” Sarma tweeted.

Assam DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta said that the accused person was arrested from Moranhat area in Assam’s Charaideo district on December 10 night.

“We have received information that Wazid Hussein is suspected in a case involving theft of a safe belonging to the late football player Diego Maradona. The suspect had worked as a security guard for a company in Dubai that was storing the late player’s belongings. After a few days on the job, he had asked for his employer’s permission to return to India because of his father’s illness and he arrived at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi on August 15 this year,” the Assam DGP said.

On the other hand, Sivasagar district Superintendent of Police (SP) Rakesh Raushan said that the arrested person is originally hailing from Sivasagar district and was arrested on December 10 night from his in-laws house at Moranhat area in Charaideo district.

Football great Diego Maradona died of cardiac arrest on November 25, 2020 at his home in Argentina. He was 60.
